Long Term Car Rental Dubai: 3, 6 & 12 Month Deals

We’ve tested six-month and yearly rental contracts with eight providers. Long-term rates drop dramatically with commitment: a 12-month rental costs 40-50% less per day than daily rates. This guide compares three-month, six-month, and yearly contracts and explains why leasing differs from rental.

TL;DR

  • 3-month Toyota Corolla: AED 1,800-2,400 per month (AED 60-80/day)
  • 6-month Corolla: AED 1,400-1,900 per month (AED 47-63/day)
  • 12-month Corolla: AED 1,200-1,700 per month (AED 40-57/day)
  • Daily equivalent drops 45% from 1-day rate to 12-month rate
  • All-inclusive pricing: insurance, maintenance, roadside support
  • Mileage limits: typically unlimited on long-term contracts
  • Early termination: possible with 30-60 day notice, minor penalty

Long-Term Rental Providers & Monthly Rates

We obtained quotes from eight operators offering 3, 6, and 12-month contracts. All rates include third-party insurance, 24/7 roadside support, and zero mileage restrictions. Pricing is monthly; you pay upfront or split into instalments.

Prices verified April 2026 via phone quote. We compared identical vehicle requests across all providers. Diamond Lease undercuts on Corolla by AED 200-500/month. Thrifty is second-cheapest on standard vehicles. Premium Lease focuses on higher-end cars (Mercedes, BMW) where they’re more competitive.

How Costs Drop with Longer Commitment

We tracked pricing from 1-day rental to 12-month contract for Toyota Corolla. Daily rental at Thrifty: AED 110/day (AED 3,300/month equivalent). Three-month contract: AED 2,200/month (33% savings). Six-month contract: AED 1,700/month (48% savings). Twelve-month contract: AED 1,500/month (55% savings).

This pricing curve applies across all providers. Longer commitment attracts deeper discounts because insurers reduce risk (guaranteed vehicle custody, predictable maintenance claims, lower churn cost). We graphed this with eight providers; all follow similar discount progression.

The inflection point for value is six months. Six-month savings (48%) exceed three-month savings (33%) disproportionately. If you’re unsure, a six-month contract balances flexibility and cost. Twelve-month adds only another 5-7% savings but locks you in year-round.

Leasing vs Long-Term Rental: Key Differences

Long-term rental includes all-in pricing (insurance, roadside support, registration) and flexibility (30-60 day exit with minor penalty). Monthly cost is predictable. You’re a renter; the agency owns and maintains the vehicle.

Leasing is typically 3-5 year commitment through a finance company. You pay for wear-and-tear overages. Early exit carries substantial penalty (12-24 months of remaining payments forfeited). Leasing includes maintenance but not insurance (you buy separately). Leasing monthly cost is lower than rental but offers zero flexibility.

We compared a 12-month Corolla rental (AED 1,500/month) vs a 36-month lease (AED 1,200/month). The lease is AED 300/month cheaper, but requires insurance purchase (AED 80-100/month) and penalises early exit. Rental total: AED 1,500. Lease total: AED 1,300-1,400 all-in (similar). Rental wins on flexibility; lease wins if you’re certain of 3-year commitment.

For expats or short-term residents, rental is always better. Leases assume permanent residency and complex exit procedures. We recommend long-term rental over leasing for most Dubai circumstances.

What’s Included in Long-Term Rental Pricing

All eight operators include third-party insurance and emergency roadside support (24/7 hotline). Some include maintenance and tyre replacement at no extra cost. We tested Diamond Lease (maintenance included) vs Economy Rent (maintenance excluded).

Diamond Lease (AED 1,200/month Corolla): Insurance, roadside support, and scheduled maintenance all-included. You pay for fuel only. Tyres, filters, oil changes, brake pads covered. This is genuine all-in pricing.

Economy Rent (AED 1,700/month Corolla): Insurance and roadside support included. Maintenance and tyres excluded. You pay for fuel plus any repairs beyond warranty. Total annual cost: approximately AED 1,700 x 12 plus AED 1,500 maintenance (estimated) equals AED 21,900 total.

When comparing quotes, confirm what’s included. Diamond Lease’s AED 1,200 is genuinely cheaper than Economy Rent’s AED 1,700 because maintenance is bundled. Hidden maintenance costs can add 15-20% to seemingly cheap rental rates.

Mileage Limits and Restrictions

Most long-term rental contracts offer unlimited mileage. We tested this with Thrifty, Diamond Lease, and National. All allow unlimited kilometres on 6+ month contracts. The three-month contracts occasionally impose caps (25,000 km limit with Inspire Lease, AED 0.50/km overage).

We tested mileage tracking: Thrifty provides no mileage check (confirms unlimited). Diamond Lease monitors via odometer at return (confirms unlimited). Inspire Lease’s GPS tracks mileage for three-month contracts only.

For daily commutes under 20,000 km/year, mileage limits are irrelevant. If you’re doing 50,000 km/year (Dubai-Abu Dhabi commute plus weekend travel), unlimited mileage is essential. Overage charges (AED 0.50-1.00/km) add up fast; 5,000 km overage costs AED 2,500-5,000.

Early Termination and Flexibility

All operators allow early termination with 30-60 day notice. We tested this by requesting early exit calculations with three providers. Typical penalty: one month’s rental fee (approximately AED 1,500 for Corolla). Some operators waive penalty if you provide 60 days notice.

Diamond Lease charges no penalty with 45-day notice. Thrifty charges AED 500 penalty regardless of notice. National charges 30% of remaining contract value if you exit before 3 months; 15% if you exit before 12 months.

Read the fine print before signing. A seemingly cheap 12-month contract at Thrifty (AED 1,500/month) carries AED 500 exit penalty plus potential fees for excess mileage or damage. Diamond Lease at AED 1,200/month with no penalty is actually cheaper if you might exit early.

Damage and Excess Liability

Long-term contracts have two liability tiers. Normal wear-and-tear is covered (worn tyres, chipped paint, small dents under 10cm). Damage exceeding wear-and-tear carries AED 500-5,000 excess depending on severity and provider.

We tested a damage scenario with Thrifty. Scratched bumper (estimated AED 1,200 repair) resulted in AED 1,000 excess payment. The agency covered AED 200 as expected wear-and-tear on 12-month rental. Damage caused by accident (police report required) is treated differently; your excess applies regardless.

Comprehensive insurance upgrade (available with most providers for AED 30-50/month) reduces excess from AED 1,000 to AED 250-500. Worth it if you’re unfamiliar with Dubai parking or weather conditions (hail, dust damage).

Vehicle Condition at Return

We tested return conditions with National and Diamond Lease. Both conduct 30-minute walk-around inspection at return. They photograph any damage (dents, scratches, stains) and assess liability within 3 business days.

Return condition checklist we used: exterior dents/scratches, interior stains/damage, mechanical function, tyre condition, fuel level. If you return the vehicle in poor condition (excessive dents, mechanical issues), damage charges apply within 30 days of return.

We recommend taking photos of the vehicle at pickup and return. These photos help dispute damage claims if the agency claims pre-existing damage is your responsibility. Three of eight providers disputed damage assessments in our testing; photos resolved all disputes in our favour.

Payment Options and Flexibility

All providers accept upfront annual payment or monthly instalments. Upfront payment sometimes offers 2-5% discount. Monthly instalments attract no interest (standard practice).

We tested payment methods: Credit card accepted universally. Debit card accepted everywhere except Premium Lease (credit card only). Bank transfer accepted by all except Economy Rent. Cash payment (upfront lump sum) is discouraged but possible with local negotiations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is long-term car rental cheaper than buying a used car in Dubai? For stays under two years, rental wins. A used Toyota Corolla (2023) costs AED 40,000-50,000. Depreciation over two years: AED 12,000-15,000. Total cost: approximately AED 27,000-38,000 plus insurance, maintenance, registration. Long-term rental for 24 months at AED 1,500/month equals AED 36,000 (insurance, support, all-inclusive). Rental offers flexibility; buying offers ownership. If unsure of staying in Dubai, rent.

Can you switch vehicles mid-contract in a long-term rental? Some operators allow one switch. We tested this with Diamond Lease (allowed one vehicle swap at no charge). Thrifty allows upgrade for AED 100-200/month extra (Corolla to Civic). Most operators restrict switching to avoid administrative hassle. Confirm before signing if you anticipate needing a different vehicle.

What happens if the long-term rental car breaks down? All providers cover mechanical breakdown. Roadside support provides towing and recovery 24/7. You’re not responsible for repair costs. We tested this: Thrifty recovered a broken-down vehicle within 45 minutes (Umm Sequeim area). Repair was done at agency’s expense; customer waited at home.

Is a guarantor required for long-term rental? No. Most providers require only valid driving license, passport, and credit card. A few (Premium Lease, some local operators) may request UAE employment letter as verification. We tested this with six providers; none required guarantor. Guarantor would be required only if you lack credit history or employment verification.

Can you rent a car long-term without UAE driving license? Yes. Valid home country driving license plus International Driving Permit works for all eight providers. We tested this with National (visiting Canadian with IDP worked fine). UAE residency is not required. You must be 21+ years old (25+ for some luxury vehicles).
